Mothers’ Union April 2017

The meeting began with prayers and a welcome for our guest speaker, Alan Farnworth. Alan is a captain with Norwegian Airlines and gave us an insight into the life of a pilot. He spoke about his family connections that started his interest in flying and showed paintings of the various types of aircraft that he has flown. The members were amazed by some of the detail that aircrew have to absorb before each flight, surprised by the number of time zones crossed and thoroughly entertained by Alan’s amusing stories about ‘difficult’ passengers. Joyce gave a heartfelt vote of thanks for what was a most interesting talk.

A welcome cup of tea was followed by the raffle. The prizes were won by Blodwen and Glenys.

Our next meeting is in the church hall on Thursday 11th May at 2.00 pm.

Mother’s Union Meeting held on 9th February 2017

Our guest speaker at this month’s meeting was Doctor Caroline Irvine and she spoke about her work in the Hospice of the Good Shepherd. We were all fascinated by what Caroline had to tell us and learned a lot about human dignity and courage in the face of adversity. We are also now better able to appreciate the hard work and dedication of doctors, nurses and volunteers who do such an amazing job in difficult circumstances. Many of us were
surprised to learn how little the hospices receive from the NHS and it certainly highlighted the importance of fund raising. It was an extremely interesting and thought- provoking meeting.

Sincere thanks again go to Caroline for giving up her time to be with us.

Our next meeting is on Thursday 9th March at 2.00 pm.

Mothers’ Union Meeting ~ 14th July 2016
July’s meeting in the church hall began with a short business agenda after which we adjourned to church to take part in the wave of prayer for the new Mission Area.

At 3 o’clock, we returned to the hall where we listened to a most informative and entertaining talk on Fair Trade by Rev. Carol Ferrer. Carol had brought along samples of goods to show us just a small part of the vast range of items produced under the Fair Trade umbrella. It is certainly good to know that everyday products on our shopping lists can help people in poorer countries earn a living wage and educate their children. We were all delighted to sample the delicious chocolate and many of us couldn’t resist purchasing more to take home!

After a vote of thanks to Carol we all enjoyed a welcome cup of tea and the meeting closed with the Grace. There is no meeting in August and our next meeting is on Thursday 8th September at 2.00pm. This will begin with our annual Mothers’ Union Communion service followed by afternoon tea at Chocs Away. I’d like to wish everyone has a pleasant summer break and thank you all for your support and fellowship, Pat Farnworth.

New Members enrolled in Spring 2014
Pat Farnworth, our Hope Branch Leader, writes:

The 9.30am Communion Service, on Sunday 9th March, at St Cynfarch’s Church Hope was the setting for a truly joyous occasion for members of Hope Church Mothers’ Union when the Rector, Adam Pawley, conducted a service of enrolment for six members of the Mothers’ Union who have joined us in the past year.
It was a delight to share this special event with the general congregation and we were all conscious of the warmth of collective fellowship within our Church.
We are extremely grateful to Adam who conducted the proceedings with his unique blend of sincerity and humour, helping us all to relax and appreciate the spiritual significance of the occasion. After the service, the celebration continued in the Church Hall, with a special cake and a generous supply of tea and coffee which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
Our thanks to the gentlemen who served the refreshments and to Allan for the picture.”
